Concussion

What is a concussion?

A concussion is an injury to the brain from a hit to the head or a violent jolt to the body that causes the head to move rapidly.  This injury to the brain causes a temporary change in how your brain functions.  Due to the temporary chemical and structural changes in the brain, you may experience headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to noise, balance problems, memory problems, irritability, fatigue, or feeling in a fog.

Concussions can happen anywhere. You can get a concussion from a motor vehicle accident, fall, sports injury or hit to the head. Concussions are often called the 'invisible injury' because there are usually no outward signs of damage, making it difficult for others to understand the very real symptoms someone may be experiencing.

If you suspect you have a concussion, it's crucial to seek medical attention from a qualified healthcare provider.
